Encounter-Type Thermal Haptic Device
Using Multiple Rotating Pre-heated Peltier Actuators
One of the main challenges in VR haptics is simulating the immediate sensation of touching materials with vastly different temperatures. Existing thermal displays often have a delay while heating or cooling, which disrupts realism. To solve this, we developed a wearable "encountered-type" haptic device that uses a rotating mechanism with four Peltier elements. By maintaining different initial temperatures on each element and rotating the correct one into contact with the palm, our device eliminates thermal delay. This system provides simultaneous thermal and force feedback, significantly enhancing user immersion in virtual environments.
